Japan meets Louisiana in Husband/Wife team Chef Joe and Chef Mihoko. Said best by the James Beard writers, "His Louisiana upbringing and European training  and her Asian heritage and American experience inform an exciting menu." Repast's casual yet elegant ambiance accommodates indoor, covered patio, and private dining experiences - an absolute treat to feast. Heavenly CrabCakesWith dishes ranging from macrobiotic bento "compositions" to bacon wrappedmedjool dates to  shrimp mousse and cornmeal-encrusted crabcakes of Martha Stewart fame - you will find something pleasing to any appetite. Located in Virginia Highlands area, Repast opened in 2006 and has earned "Best New Restaurant" by Esquire Magazine, selection for "Rising Star Chef" by starchefs.com, and an invitation to cook at the James Beard House in 2008 in New York City, among others.

Chef Joe Truex grew up in the small town of Mansura, Louisiana, attended Louisiana State University, and began his culinary training in New

Orleans at Fairmont Hotel in 1986. A graduate of The Culinary Institute of America in New York (class of '89), he worked at the original Le Cirque under Chef Daniel Bolud, and continued his training in overseas in Basel, Switzerland and back in the states in Las Vegas and New York City, where he eventually met his wife, Chef Mihoko. They moved to Atlanta in 2002 and opened Repast in 2006. C

hef Joe is also the wine director at Repast Restaurant. His passion for wine is exemplified in

the award-winning wine list, which has received an "Award of Excellence" by Wine Spectator magazine.


Chef Mihoko Obunai-Truex grew up in Tokyo, Japan. After graduating from New York University, she attended The French Culinary Institute in New York City. Chef Mihoko then began working in well-known French restaurants in the city, spending time at L'Absinthe, La Caravelle, Bayard and Guastavino. Her philosophy of Japanese culinary simplicity is evident in Repast's dishes. Chef Mihoko received certification in macrobiotic cuisine from Kushi Institute of

 

Japan, where she learned to create several of the dishes on Repast's menu. She travels to New York and Tokyo several times a year to continue working with celebrated chefs from around the world. Chef Mihoko enjoys creating pottery and Japanese watercolor paintings in her spare time.

Chef Mihoko is a certified macrobiotic chef whose cooking style is unique and modern, using local organic vegetables, grains and Mitoku products.

Chef Mihoko provides the following:
+ Private macrobiotic cooking service (daily and weekly meals)
+ Seasonal hands-on cooking classes in English and Japanese


Chef Mihoko studied with renowned Kushi institute teachers, such as Michio Kushi, Patricio Garcia de Paredes and Warren Kramer. She continues her studies with them here in the states and in Tokyo, Japan.
